What is CTRLBOX
CTRLBOX is a development environment and workflow built around GitHub, GitHub Codespaces, and OpenAI Codex. It lets capable software engineers work on their projects from a phone by delegating implementation to coding agents instead of personally executing every low-level step.
The developer remains responsible for product direction, architecture, review, and consequential decisions. Codex handles implementation within explicit project context and guardrails.
Delegate implementation. Keep control of the product.
Why I created CTRLBOX
It has become genuinely difficult for me to allocate time to side projects while being a dad of two young kids and working a full-time job. I still want to build serious software, but long uninterrupted sessions in front of a laptop are no longer something I can depend on.
What I do have are small pockets of idle time: a few minutes here, twenty minutes there. Coding agents make those fragments useful. I can define what needs to happen, delegate implementation, review the result, make the decisions that matter, and close my phone until the next pocket of free time.
That is the workflow I am building CTRLBOX around.
What's next for CTRLBOX
Today, it is primarily a remote interface to a Codex agent running inside its own development environment.
The intended product goes further. CTRLBOX will provide a structured workflow for clarifying product intent, reviewing architecture, delegating bounded work, reviewing proposed and completed changes, and escalating consequential decisions instead of allowing agents to assume them.
The goal is to abstract away implementation work without turning the product into an implementation black box.
Ditch the laptop.
CTRLBOX is still early. Join the waitlist for access as the guardrailed development workflow becomes available.
